Lasik Complications

Here are five reasons why you should think twice about undergoing LASIK surgery.

LASIK complication #1
Dry eye – The most common complication of LASIK surgery. Production of tears is severed when the flap is cut, a common LASIK procedure, and medical studies show that some nerves never go back to normal even after healing. Symptoms include pain, eyelid sticking, and eye burning sensation.

LASIK complication #2
Poor visual quality – In general, LASIK patients experience a sudden increase of visual distortion (starbursts, halos, multiple images) at night and difficulty seeing details in dim light. In fact the FDA website warns that patients with large pupils are more susceptible to visual distortions at night following LASIK surgery.

LASIK complication #3
Loss of near vision – Reports say that LASIK patients over the age of 40 require special eye glasses to be able to see up close. Non-LASIK patients over 40 see just fine simply by taking off their glasses.

LASIK complication #4
Long-term consequences – LASIK surgery affects the precision of intraocular pressure measurements, which exposes patients to higher risks of blindness due to undiagnosed glaucoma. LASIK patients will also develop cataracts over time.

LASIK complication #5
Limited rehabilitation options – LASIC surgery is irreversible, the worst part being most complications arise much later after several years. Sometimes a corneal transplant is conducted as a last resort to relieve some of the complications, but it won’t result in improved vision.
